Illicit economy outperforming the formal economy in SA
South African company, Pinpoint Stewards, will host the 2nd Annual Transnational Organised Crime Prevention Conference on 20–21 October 2026 which will take place under the theme, “Securing borders across land, air, sea and cyber by intensifying multilateral & hi-tech cooperation”.
The conference will bring together senior representatives from government, law enforcement, prosecution, border management, financial intelligence, the private sector, academia and international partners to address and disrupt the growing threat of transnational organised crime on SA.
A key focus of the conference will be disrupting the top three tiers of the illicit value chain through intelligence-led collaboration, strategic border interventions, technology, financial investigations and coordinated enforcement.
Addressing the two day conference will be key stakeholders including: Pan African Resources, Border Management Authority (BMA), Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI), South African Banking Risk Information Centre (SABRIC), Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC), National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and international perspectives form the Australian Federal Police, U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
Round-table (break-away) discussions will focus on: key infrastructure, narcotics, counterfeit goods, environmental crimes, GBV and human trafficking etc. recognising that these areas frequently intersect with broader criminal networks and illicit financial flows. Each round-table will give feedback on practical outcomes and action points.
The ultimate objective is to build stronger collaboration to not simply seize illicit goods or arrest individual criminals but to dismantle the syndicate networks, finances, corruption and infrastructure that allow organised crime to survive and prosper—and in doing so protect South Africa’s economy, institutions, communities and future.
