The Mandela Bay Development Agency (MBDA) was created in 2003 to tackle a growing challenge: the urban decay of Nelson Mandela Bay’s inner city.
As a joint effort by the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality (NMBM) and the Industrial Development Corporation, the MBDA was set up to transform neglected areas and spark development in and around the city’s southern harbour. As a municipal entity, the MBDA operates under national legislation and a Service Delivery Agreement with the municipality. Everything we do is shaped by a mandate approved by Council.
The MBDA management team delivers operational outcomes in line with the agency’s strategic plans and mandate documents, as well as the Integrated Development Plan (IDP) of the NMBM. The Agency is the proud operator of the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, the Nelson Mandela Bay Science and Technology Centre and St Peter’s Rainbow Village.
The Mandela Bay Development Agency is committed to accountability, transparency and integrity.
