Background
New Jersey is a transportation and logistics state. With the largest port by value of goods shipped on the East Coast, #1 for densest rail and #3 for densest road networks, and the country’s premiere air transport systems laboratory, transportation and logistics. It’s often called The World’s State logistics — a true gateway that never stops moving.
The transportation and logistics sector is a major contributor to its economy, accounting for close to 200,000 private sector jobs and $20-billion in GDP. This is driven by over 13,000 transport and logistics businesses who are located in New Jersey, including the headquarters of many of the world’s largest automotive, shipping, aviation and logistics companies. Transportation’s indirect economic contribution to NJ’s economy is even larger. Being the fifth in the nation for total imports and exports, New Jersey’s economy and communities’ wellbeing is dependent on the efficient movement of goods and people.
New Jersey’s logistics importance stems from its strategic location, robust infrastructure, and proximity to major urban markets. The state’s central position within the Northeast Corridor distribution network allows businesses to reach major markets faster and with lower costs. New Jersey’s warehousing and logistics industry is built around speed, efficiency, and scalability, making it one of the most competitive and fast-moving sectors in the state.
New Jersey’s logistics strength starts with location. The state lies at the heart of the Northeast Corridor distribution network, placing it between major U.S. metro areas like New York City, Philadelphia, and Boston. Its central position reduces transit time and increases efficiency for retailers, distributors, and manufacturers. When brands map their East Coast fulfilment network, New Jersey consistently ranks at the top. The reason is simple: the state offers fast, dependable connections to customers and ports alike.
Businesses evaluating Why NJ for distribution often point to its unmatched blend of access, infrastructure, and adaptability. Whether serving domestic or international markets, it offers the speed and scale modern supply chains demand.”
