The Butterworth MSME Innovation Hub site at the Old Unitra Building in Vuli Valley was officially handed over to the appointed contractor for renovation, in a ceremony that signaled a new chapter for small business development and youth empowerment in the region.
The event was led by Amathole District Municipality Executive Mayor, Cllr Anele Ntsangani, and ASPIRE Board Chairperson, Mr Luthando Jack, and graced by the presence of the entire ASPIRE Board, ward councillor, ward committee and community members, as well as partners including Propella Business Incubator, King Hintsa TVET College, the South African Youth Council, and the contractor.
In his keynote address, Cllr Ntsangani expressed optimism about the project’s impact: “This project responds directly to the plight of unemployed youth and the growth of MSMEs. It is aligned with our municipal vision of creating opportunities that empower and uplift our people,” he said.
ASPIRE Board Chairperson, Mr Jack, emphasized the importance of sustainability: “This initiative is about giving a hand-up instead of a handout. It is designed to fight dependency among young people and foster entrepreneurship. I urge local leaders and community structures to unite and form a strong mechanism that will jealously protect this development for future sustainability.”
ASPIRE CEO, Mr Avuyile Xabadiya, presented the project overview, outlining its scope and strategic role in driving innovation and enterprise growth.
The ASPIRE COO introduced the contractor, who pledged commitment to quality delivery. The ward Cllr delivered the message of support, reinforcing the alignment of the project with the municipality’s vision of sustainable economic development and inclusive growth.
The programme concluded with a symbolic handover and a site walkabout, where stakeholders toured the facility and identified refurbishment areas.
The Butterworth MSME Innovation Hub forms part of the Department of Small Business Development’s Business Infrastructure Support Programme, implemented by ASPIRE, and is expected to play a pivotal role in stimulating local economic development, supporting MSMEs, and creating sustainable opportunities for youth and entrepreneurs.
Upon the completion of the project, the district expects the department of small business development together with ASPIRE to come and officially hand over the facility to the municipality.
