ASPIRE CEO inspires students at University of Fort Hare year-end ceremony

At the 2026 University of Fort Hare Teaching and Learning Year End Ceremony, the Chief Executive Officer of the Amathole Economic Development Agency (ASPIRE), Mr. Avuyile Xabadiya, delivered a powerful and thought provoking address to students, faculty and guests. His participation was part of the ongoing partnership and Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between ASPIRE and the University, which continues to strengthen collaboration in research, innovation and community development.

Mr. Xabadiya reminded students that while academic achievement is important, it should not be the sole measure of success. He urged them to use the opportunities at their disposal to build entrepreneurial ecosystems that can transform communities and create sustainable livelihoods. He emphasized that young people must be producers, not only consumers, applying their knowledge creatively to solve pressing challenges. Innovation, creativity, and effective use of social media were highlighted as tools that can empower students to shape their futures and contribute meaningfully to society.

The CEO further inspired students to embrace resilience and adaptability, noting that the world is rapidly changing and requires leaders who can think critically and act decisively. He encouraged them to cultivate a spirit of collaboration and service, reminding them that true success lies not only in personal achievement but also in uplifting others and contributing to the broader development of the nation.

Mr. Xabadiya stressed that young people must be at the forefront of achieving economic emancipation, as they are the future of South Africa. He called on them to take ownership of their destiny, to dream boldly and to work tirelessly to turn those dreams into reality. He reminded them that leadership is not defined by position but by action, and that every student has the potential to be a change-maker in their community.

The address concluded with ASPIRE’s assurance to supporting youth development through its partnership with the University of Fort Hare. By creating platforms that connect academic knowledge with practical entrepreneurship and innovation, ASPIRE seeks to empower students to become catalysts for inclusive economic growth in the Amathole region and beyond.
