Buyer & visitor numbers continue to rise at WTM Africa 2019

In total, 31 African countries were represented at WTM Africa this year, across a variety of exhibitors and tourism boards.

WTM Africa continues to grow, once again charting more positive numbers after three successful days of #WTMA19 in the Host City of Cape Town, in April this year. *Travel Professional numbers are up 15% year-on-year, while the Hosted Buyer contingent grew by 20%.

The African continent’s premiere travel trade market drew 657 exhibiting companies, showcasing the best travel, tourism and related opportunities on offer – drawn from 31 different countries.

“The overwhelming impression left by WTM Africa 2019 is that there’s a sense of excitement about where inbound & outbound African travel & tourism is headed in the future,” says Megan Oberholzer, Portfolio Director: Travel, Tourism & Sports Portfolio for Reed Exhibitions South Africa. “The fact that we had more exhibitors, visitors and Hosted Buyers attending this year’s event than ever before, is a sign that Africa is well and truly open for business.

Hosted buyers for WTM Africa 2019 represented a cross-section of over 70 different countries from across the world, with buyers and exhibitors from new markets, including Thailand, Algeria, Rwanda, Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire attending.

In total, 31 African countries were represented at WTM Africa this year, across a variety of exhibitors and tourism boards. “Attendance from across Africa continues to grow and has cemented WTM Africa as the continent’s premiere travel trade exhibition,” says Oberholzer.

Over 200 speakers from around the globe delivered talks and led debates about topics including digital trends & technology; the role of women in the industry; Responsible Tourism; investment in the African continent; Travel Influencer Marketing and the role that sporting events play in attracting tourism opportunities, and many others.
