Industrial Parks in Eastern Cape are seeking investors

Three industrial parks in the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa are seeking private sector investors.

Butterworth Industrial Park

Sectors: Multi-sectoral (targeted sectors) – agriculture, agro-processing, automotive, general manufacturing, clothing and textile.

Location: Amathole District Municipality (ADM), Eastern Cape Province, South Africa.

Project descriptor:

  • Butterworth Industrial Park has 236 units.
  • Two investors (national companies) are exploring options for logistics, distribution and warehousing sites.
  • An automotive engineering company is considering expanding its operations in Msobomvu.

Project driver: Eastern Cape Development Corporation (ECDC)

Masterplan refurbishment cost: $24,3-million 

Fort Jackson Industrial Park

Sector: Multi-sectoral (targeted sectors) – automotive aftermarket, construction, light manufacturing and warehousing/storage.

Location: East London, Eastern Cape Province, South Africa.

Project descriptor:

  • Fort Jackson industrial Park has 74 units
  • Strong automotive and transport focus
  • Proximity to East London Industrial Development Zone and the Port of East London
  • Decent road connectivity on the N2
  • Phase 2 expansion investment by automotive component manufacturer – expected to create 600 jobs, but only on confirmation of 2026 manufacturing lines
  • Agro-Processing Hub together with development trust and private sector partner – due diligence and market offtake negotiations.

Project driver: Eastern Cape Development Corporation (ECDC)

Masterplan refurbishment cost: $21,6-million conservative estimate (2023)

Vulindlela Industrial Park

Sector: Multi-sectoral (targeted sectors) – automotive aftermarket, construction, light manufacturing and warehousing/storage.

Location: King Sabatha Dalindyebo Local Municipality, Eastern Cape Province, South Africa.

Project descriptor:

  • Vulindlela Industrial Park has 127 units
  • The factory units range from 220 sqm to 2,500 sqm.
  • Most of the tenants are in the SMME range. Service offerings are directed at making them operate at full potential and graduate them into the mainstream economy.
  • Substantial number of security services firms as well as automotive repair firms
  • Automotive Repair Hub plans in negotiation with the King Sabatha Dalindyebo Local Municipality
  • Logistics and distribution investor looking to establish a large warehouse

Project driver: Eastern Cape Development Corporation (ECDC)

Masterplan refurbishment cost: Between $41,7-million to $63,9-million
