New features, immersive content see The Hotel Show Africa evolve in step with industry

Developed after speaking directly with the industry, the changes are expected to spark significant growth for the event, as it strives to be more inclusive and representative of Africa’s hospitality sector.

Industry feedback played essential role in shaping event’s future

  • Event is part of Africa Trade Week, co-located with SAITEX and Africa’s Big 7
  • Event growing to be more representative and inclusive of entire hospitality industry across Africa

The Hotel Show Africa will showcase exciting and immersive new features, bringing it closer to the industry it serves, when it opens in Johannesburg later this year.

Developed after speaking directly with the industry, the changes are expected to spark significant growth for the event, as it strives to be more inclusive and representative of Africa’s hospitality sector.

New features also draw on dmg events experience as the organiser of The Hotel Show Dubai, a flagship event in its twentieth year. Newly appointed Event Director for Food, Hospitality and Trade at dmg events, Lynn Chamier, is spearheading the changes, bringing her 33 years of experience to bear to ensure the event evolves to meet industry requirements in Africa.

“Growing the existing brands and developing new ideas and features for our hospitality portfolio in Africa is a fantastic challenge that I’m wholeheartedly embracing,” said Chamier.

New for 2019 are the free-to-attended workshops by SANHA (South African National Halaal Association) hotels on How to attract Halaal Tourism and RASA (Restaurant Association of South Africa) for waiters and restaurant managers. Interactive additions start with two competitive challenges: The Global Pizza Challenge and the Housekeepers Challenge. These will see individuals and teams compete live at the event for prizes and the honour of winning.

An extensive programme of workshops at the Hospitality Forum will deliver engaging and informative presentations and give attendees the chance to speak with industry experts. The Food Next Conference will focus on the Farm to Fork concept, showcasing the ideas and products being developed to meet African hospitality’s demand for safe, traceable nutritious food.

The Hotel Show Africa will also give visitors the chance to explore the Kitchen of the Future, as exhibitors reveal the technological developments set to change food preparation. Visitors will have the chance enjoy a taste of Café Culture as this special show feature will show Baristas demonstrating their coffee making skills.

“As organisers we constantly need to change and develop our events to create stronger and more compelling offerings for our clients,” said Devi Paulsen, VP South Africa for dmg events. “Lynn’s experience and her passion for exhibitions are a great addition to our team and will drive the development of our events across the Food, Hospitality and Trade portfolio.”
