This year we are pleased to welcome Mark Cutifani, CEO, Anglo American, who will address the Gala Dinner on the evening of 1st October and the Joburg Indaba on the morning of 2nd October with a keynote address on how modern mining can deliver enduring value for South Africa.

Some of the highlights this year include:

Dr Jabu Mabuza, Group Chief Executive of Eskom, will address the industry on how to ensure security of energy supply for the future.

A panel discussion on bulk mining includes Dr Popo Molefe, Chairperson, Transnet SOC, Jabu Mdaki from RBCT and CEOs Themba Mkhwanazi, Andries van Heerden and André Joubert who will discuss the opportunities and challenges for the bulk mining industry, including how to manage pit-to-port costs and logistics, bulk miners’ expectations for market pricing and demand, and other key issues.

Coal will be discussed in detail as July Ndlovu, Lucky Kgatle, Dr Nombasa Tsengwa and Vuslat Bayoglu give their insights on the outlook for SA coal mining and the role of coal in SA’s energy mix. The crucial question of how to transition from coal to future energy sources will also be discussed in a timely panel chaired by Brian Dames, CEO of African Rainbow Energy & Power, and including Mxolisi Mgojo.

This year we are delighted to include what will undoubtedly be a highlight of the agenda – a live link-up with Evy Hambro of Blackrock and George Cheveley from Investec Asset Management in London, who will reveal their views on the international mining investment landscape in a discussion chaired by Fiona Perrott-Humphrey and which will include veteran investor Sandy McGregor and Myuran Rajaratnam.

Other engaging, insightful and high-level speakers include Peter Steenkamp, Chris Griffith, Mike Teke, Mike Fraser, Nico Muller, Steve Phiri, Deshnee Naidoo, Roger Baxter, Trudi Makhaya. We are also pleased to welcome Frans Baleni, David Sipunzi, Irvin Jim and Dawie Roodt who will be taking part in what is sure to be a fascinating panel discussion chaired by Bobby Godsell on the role of unions in the mining industry.

ESG in the mining industry is becoming increasingly important, and what mining companies should be doing to promote a culture of environmental/social responsibility and good governance will be discussed in detail by an expert panel chaired by Nolitha Fakude, Chairperson, Management Board at Anglo American in South Africa.

The programme is available here.

Please note that the final programme will be released in the week preceding the event, so please continue to visit the Joburg Indaba website for updates to both the programme and list of speakers.
