Durban to host diplomatic engagement with consulate generals and ambassadors

Diplomatic Community engagement with consulate generals and ambassadors based in the City, to be held on Wednesday, 31 May at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.

The engagement intends to showcase and communicate key eThekwini investment projects and opportunities in the City. It will also provide a platform to give an overview of the changes taking place in the City.

EThekwini Mayor Zandile Gumede said the primary aim of the engagement is to promote investment and boost the economy of the City.

“We will be hosting around 30 consulate generals and ambassadors. We want to equip them with information about the City so they can become ambassadors of Durban in their respective countries. This in turn will create opportunities for private sector investment and promote job creation,” she said.

Investment promotion and economic development remains top of the City’s agenda. This will be achieved in part through a number of catalytic projects which have been initiated in the City. Through these projects the City aims to attract investment and foster an investor-friendly environment that will facilitate local and foreign investment.

“This engagement will ensure that interest of foreign investors in the City of Durban is stimulated while also strengthening bilateral trade and investment opportunities for business benefit,” added Mayor Gumede.

Last year the City held a similar engagement with consulate generals and ambassadors based in Gauteng, where investment development and catalytic projects were the core discussion, including enhancing export and employment opportunities.

Members of the media are invited to attend the diplomatic engagement scheduled as follows:

  • Date: 31 May 2017
  • TimeE: 08H30 – 12H00
  • Venue: Moses Mabhida Stadium, Presidential Suite
